The third match of the India vs England Test series will begin on Thursday at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. The five-match series is currently level at 1-1. England won the first Test at Headingley by five wickets, while India bounced back with a massive 336-run victory at Edgbaston — their first-ever Test win at that venue. Led by Shubman Gill, Team India will now aim to make a mark at Lord’s. Let’s take a look at the head-to-head Test record between India and England at this iconic ground.

How Many Tests has India Won at Lord’s against England?

Known as the “Home of Cricket,” Lord’s hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for India. The team has played a total of 19 Test matches at Lord’s so far but has managed to win only three of them. India’s connection with this ground dates back 93 years — the team played its first-ever Test match here in 1932 under the captaincy of CK Nayudu. In that match, India suffered a 158-run defeat at the hands of England, failing to chase a target of 345. It took India 54 long years to register their first Test victory at Lord’s.

A Golden Opportunity for Captain Shubman Gill

India’s first Test win at Lord’s came in 1986 under the leadership of Kapil Dev. India defeated England by five wickets in that match, and Kapil was named Player of the Match. The second win came in 2014 under MS Dhoni, when India beat England by 95 runs. The third win was in 2021 under Virat Kohli’s captaincy — a memorable 151-run victory.

Now, Shubman Gill has a golden chance to become the fourth Indian captain to win a Test at Lord’s. This will be Gill’s first time playing a Test match at the venue. The 25-year-old skipper is in red-hot form, having scored 585 runs in two matches so far, including two centuries and a double hundred. He was also named Player of the Match at Edgbaston.
