The Asia Cup 2025 is likely to be held from September 5 to September 21. The Asian Cricket Council has almost finalised the 17-day tournament schedule. As per the initial plan, the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan may take place on September 7. Reports suggest that the tournament will be played in the UAE. All participating countries are expected to get approval from their respective governments soon. Teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and UAE will take part in the tournament.
India vs Pakistan Clash Could Happen Thrice
The Asia Cup will follow the group stage and Super Four format. There will be two groups with three teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage. From there, the top two teams will face each other in the final. This format guarantees at least two matches between India and Pakistan. If both teams reach the final, they could meet three times in the tournament. The second clash might take place on September 14, while the final is scheduled for September 21, according to a report by The Times of India.
This tournament will also serve as a good lead-up to the Women’s ODI World Cup, which is set to take place in India and Sri Lanka. Earlier, Pakistan was scheduled to play all its matches, including the knockout games, in Sri Lanka. However, recent developments had raised questions about the future of India-Pakistan cricket ties. Despite uncertainties looming over the Asia Cup, the tournament now appears set to go ahead.
Hosts Finalised for Next Three Editions
The hosts for the next three editions of the Asia Cup have been confirmed—Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The format of the tournament will keep changing. It will be held in ODI format in 2027, T20 in 2029, and again as an ODI tournament in 2031. The 2031 edition will take place in Sri Lanka. Promotional activities for the tournament have already begun. Official broadcaster Sony recently shared a poster for the event.
