The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced a 16-member squad for the T20 Asia Cup 2025. The team has been selected by the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Panel, with Charith Asalanka named as the captain. Wanindu Hasaranga, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, has also been included in the squad, but his participation in the tournament will depend on his fitness. Sri Lanka were the defending champions of the last Asia Cup played in the T20 format, making them one of the top contenders for this tournament as well.
All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga’s availability will depend on his recovery. He sustained a hamstring injury during the T20 series against Bangladesh in July and has not yet fully recovered. Among the experienced batters in the squad are Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, and Kusal Perera, who are expected to provide strong support to the captain. The squad also includes quality all-rounders such as Dasun Shanaka, Kamindu Mendis, Dunith Wellalage, and skipper Charith Asalanka himself.
In the bowling department, Chamika Karunaratne, Kamil Mishara, and Nuwanidu Fernando are expected to play crucial roles for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. Alongside them, fast bowlers like Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara, and Matheesa Pathirana will form the backbone of Sri Lanka’s pace attack.
Sri Lanka have been placed in Group B along with Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Afghanistan. The team will play their opening match against Bangladesh on 13th September at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, followed by matches against Hong Kong on 15th September and Afghanistan on 18th September.
