Ever since the schedule for the T20 Asia Cup 2025 was announced, there has been ongoing debate over whether the Indian cricket team should withdraw from the match against Pakistan scheduled for 14 September. Relations between India and Pakistan are strained, and many Indians believe that until Pakistan-backed terrorism against India comes to an end, there should be no sporting or any other relations with Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sports has issued a clear statement. The ministry has clarified that there will be no bilateral sporting events between India and Pakistan, but the Indian cricket team will not be stopped from participating in the Asia Cup.

On Thursday, the ministry released a new policy regarding India’s international sports relations, with special emphasis on ties with Pakistan. According to sources, this policy has come into effect immediately. As per a report by PTI, the policy states:
“India’s approach towards sporting events involving Pakistan will reflect the broader policy adopted in our bilateral relations with that country. Regarding bilateral sporting events, the Indian team will not participate in matches held in Pakistan, and Pakistani teams will also not be allowed to play bilateral matches in India.”
However, this policy will not affect multilateral tournaments. A ministry source said,
“We will not stop the Indian cricket team from playing in the Asia Cup, as it is a multi-nation tournament.”
The source further clarified,
“Pakistan will not be allowed to play bilateral matches on Indian soil, but their participation in multilateral events will not be restricted, as India will continue to adhere to the Olympic Charter.”
This policy clearly establishes a strict separation in India-Pakistan sporting relations while maintaining India’s commitment to participation in international sporting events.
