The Indian cricket team’s top players completed their pre-season fitness test on 30th and 31st August 2025 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. According to reports, ODI captain Rohit Sharma successfully cleared the test without any issues.
Several other key players also appeared for the fitness assessments, including Shubman Gill, Prasidh Krishna, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur. All of them passed the test comfortably. The fitness program included the Yo-Yo endurance test and a DXA scan to measure bone strength. Among all participants, Prasidh Krishna achieved the highest score.
Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and Jitesh Sharma will now travel to Dubai for the Asia Cup 2025. Gill has been appointed vice-captain for the tournament. He had to clear the fitness test since he recently withdrew from the Duleep Trophy due to illness, where he was supposed to lead North Zone in the quarterfinal. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar have been named as standby players for the Asia Cup, while Shardul Thakur will captain the West Zone team in the Duleep Trophy semifinal. Mohammed Siraj has been rested for the tournament.
Some Asia Cup squad members did not need a separate fitness test. Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Kuldeep Yadav were exempted since they already played in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinals. Riyan Parag, who is a standby player, also skipped the test as he featured for East Zone in the same tournament. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel did not participate due to a groin injury.
Rohit Sharma currently has no international assignments as he has retired from Tests and T20Is. He last played in the IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians and has been away from competitive cricket since then. However, he has been training regularly for the past three weeks and is expected to return for the ODI series against Australia in October.
Virat Kohli is expected to arrive at the BCCI COE in Bengaluru soon for his fitness test. He is currently in London, where he has resumed training after a break following IPL 2025. Reports suggest that both Rohit and Kohli are eager to participate in the India-A ODI series against Australia-A in Kanpur on 30th September, 3rd October, and 5th October. If Kohli clears his test, he is likely to play these matches to regain match fitness before the Australia ODI series.
