The India vs England Test Series 2025 is under the scanner of cricket experts and fans alike due to several questionable and baffling umpiring decisions. All three Tests so far have been marred by some form of controversy related to umpiring. The ICC will be hoping that the umpires appointed for the 4th Test do not repeat the same kind of performance seen in the earlier matches.
In the 3rd Test at Lord’s, the on-field umpires were criticised by cricket experts for giving too much leeway to the players. Umpires Sharfuddoula Saikat and Paul Reiffel allowed several breaks for minor fatigue concerns and ball-changing requests. Ultimately, the ICC fined the England players for maintaining a slow over-rate and also docked two of their WTC points. This decision did not sit well with former England captain Michael Vaughan, who criticised the findings of match referee Richie Richardson. Vaughan argued that India should also have been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate.
The 4th Test of the India vs England Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 will feature a fresh set of match officials. For the last two Tests of the series, the ICC has not selected any of the umpires or match referees from the previous three matches.

It is quite interesting that the ICC has chosen Ahsan Raza, a Pakistani umpire, as one of the on-field officials. The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan recently led to the cancellation of their clash in the World Championship of Legends.
