A stand has been unveiled in honour of former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Farokh Engineer at Old Trafford in Manchester. He has become the first Indian cricketer to receive such recognition at this iconic stadium. The tribute comes in appreciation of his decade-long service to the Lancashire County Cricket Club. Alongside Engineer, legendary West Indies captain Clive Lloyd—who was associated with the club for nearly two decades—has also had a stand named after him at Old Trafford.
Farokh Engineer is now only the second Indian cricketer to have a stadium stand named after him outside India. Before him, Sachin Tendulkar received a similar honour at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE. This recognition marks another proud moment in Indian cricket history. Between 1968 and 1976, Engineer played 175 matches for Lancashire, scoring 5,942 runs, taking 429 catches, and completing 35 stumpings.
Farokh Engineer’s Cricket Career
Farokh Engineer played a total of 51 matches for the Indian national team across Tests and ODIs. In Test cricket, he scored 2,611 runs, including 2 centuries and 16 half-centuries. In ODIs, he scored 114 runs. Apart from his batting skills, Engineer is regarded as one of the finest wicketkeepers to have played for India.
