The fourth match of the five-Test series between India and England is currently being played at Old Trafford in Manchester. Batting first, India have scored 264 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. At the end of Day 1, Shardul Thakur (19*) and Ravindra Jadeja (19*) are at the crease. Sai Sudharsan was the top scorer for India with 61 runs. For England, Ben Stokes picked up two wickets.
India made a strong start with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul putting on a 94-run partnership for the first wicket. Rahul was dismissed after scoring 46 runs off 98 balls. Jaiswal scored 58 runs off 107 balls before falling to Liam Dawson. Captain Shubman Gill managed just 12 runs from 23 balls before being dismissed. Sai Sudharsan played a steady knock of 61 runs off 151 balls, hitting seven fours before being caught off Ben Stokes’ bowling.
Rishabh Pant retired hurt on 37 after suffering a serious foot injury. While batting against Chris Woakes, Pant attempted a reverse sweep but missed the ball. It struck his right foot and caused a severe injury. He was unable to walk after the impact and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance cart. India will be hoping that he recovers in time for Day 2 of the fourth Test.
England currently lead the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series 2-1.
