Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has been included in the Indian squad for the Test series against England. The team management has brought him in as a cover for the injured Arshdeep Singh. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made any official announcement regarding this move. The fourth Test between India and England is scheduled to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Arshdeep Yet to Make His Debut in the Series
Arshdeep Singh has not played in any of the three Tests so far. India currently trails the five-match series 1-2. Arshdeep picked up an injury during a practice session. According to the news agency PTI, Kamboj has been called in as a backup for Arshdeep. Kamboj was part of the India A team that played two unofficial matches against England Lions before the series. He impressed by taking five wickets and scoring a half-century in the second match.
Anshul Played for CSK in IPL 2025
Anshul Kamboj played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025, after being bought in the mega auction for ₹3.40 crore. In eight matches, he claimed eight wickets. The Haryana pacer rose to fame after taking all 10 wickets in a single innings—a rare feat. He became the third bowler in Ranji Trophy history to take all 10 wickets in an innings, achieving this against Kerala during the 2024–25 season.
Arshdeep Unlikely to Play in Fourth Test
Arshdeep’s availability for the fourth Test is doubtful. The Indian team arrived in Manchester on Saturday after completing their practice sessions in Beckenham. Arshdeep might have got a chance if Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were rested due to workload management. In the Lord’s Test, India had gone with Bumrah, Siraj, and Akash Deep as their pace trio.
No Clarity on Bumrah and Akash Deep
It is still uncertain whether Jasprit Bumrah will play the Manchester Test. He had earlier said he would feature in only three matches of the series. Bumrah played the first Test in Leeds, was rested for the second in Birmingham, and returned for the third. It remains to be seen whether he will play the fourth match. Meanwhile, Akash Deep is struggling with a groin injury, and there’s no confirmation about his availability either. Siraj has played all three Tests so far, so the management might consider giving him rest too.
