Team India has given many players opportunities in Test cricket. While some have impressed with strong performances and won fans’ hearts, others have failed to make an impact. Among them is a player who has been part of the Indian Test squad but has been waiting for a chance for the last three years — his name is Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Abhimanyu Easwaran Still Not Getting a Chance
Abhimanyu Easwaran was first included in Team India for the Bangladesh tour in 2022. During that series, several players got their opportunities, but Easwaran did not get to make his Test debut. Since then, he has been named in multiple Test squads, but the wait for his debut continues.
Surprisingly, since Easwaran’s inclusion in the Indian Test team, 15 players have gone on to make their Test debuts. These players include KS Bharat, Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Devdutt Padikkal, Harshit Rana, Sai Sudharsan, and Anshul Kamboj. Notably, Anshul Kamboj made his debut in the Manchester Test against England.
Given the way Karun Nair was batting in the ongoing series, fans were expecting that Easwaran might be given a chance in his place. However, it was Sai Sudharsan who was selected instead. Now, fans are beginning to worry whether Abhimanyu Easwaran’s career might fade away without a single Test appearance.
Abhimanyu Easwaran’s Domestic Record
Easwaran has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket. In 103 first-class matches, he has scored 7,841 runs at an impressive average of 48.70, including 27 centuries and 31 half-centuries. His highest score in first-class cricket is 233. He also has 2 wickets to his name.
In List A cricket, Easwaran has played 89 matches, scoring 3,857 runs at an average of 47.03, with 9 centuries and 23 fifties. His highest List A score is 149.
Despite such strong domestic performances, Abhimanyu Easwaran is still waiting for the moment to wear the Indian Test cap.
