The third match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2024–25 between India and England began on Thursday (10 July) at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. At the end of Day 1, England reached 251/4 in their first innings. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 99, while Ben Stokes was not out on 39.
The first match of the five-Test series was played in Leeds, where the hosts secured a five-wicket victory. India made a strong comeback in the second Test at Edgbaston, defeating England by a massive margin of 336 runs and leveling the series 1-1.
Day 1 Highlights of 3rd Test between India & England:
England made a steady start in the morning. Openers Ben Duckett (23) and Zak Crawley (18) added 43 runs for the first wicket. However, Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed both openers in the same over, giving India an early breakthrough. After that, Joe Root and Ollie Pope stitched together a 109-run partnership to stabilise the innings.
Root continued his brilliant form against India and reached his half-century in 102 balls. During his innings, he also completed 3000 Test runs against India.
India took their third wicket after the tea break when Ravindra Jadeja got the well-set Ollie Pope caught behind. Pope scored 44 runs off 104 balls, including four boundaries. Then Jasprit Bumrah bowled out Harry Brook for 11, giving India their fourth success.
Root and Stokes then formed an unbeaten 79-run stand. Root has so far scored 99 runs off 191 deliveries, hitting 9 fours. Stokes remained unbeaten on 39 off 102 balls, which included three boundaries.
Changes in Playing XIs:
Both teams made one change each for this Test. Jasprit Bumrah returned to India’s playing XI after being rested in the previous match, replacing Prasidh Krishna. For England, Jofra Archer was brought in, replacing Josh Tongue.
