England had started Day 3 at 77/3 and suffered two early blows. Mohammed Siraj struck twice in the second over of the day. First, he had Joe Root caught by Rishabh Pant for 22. Then, he dismissed captain Ben Stokes for a duck. At 84/5, England were in deep trouble, but Harry Brook and Jamie Smith came to the rescue. The pair stitched together a remarkable 303-run partnership for the sixth wicket off 368 balls. During this stand, Jamie Smith reached his second Test century off 80 balls, while Brook completed his ninth Test hundred off 137 deliveries.
The second session ended with England at 355/5. However, in the final session, Akash Deep broke the partnership by dismissing Harry Brook. Brook scored 158 from 234 balls, hitting 17 fours and one six. Smith remained unbeaten on 184 from 207 balls, including 21 boundaries and four sixes. Akash Deep also removed Chris Woakes, who was caught by Karun Nair for just five runs. Later, Siraj cleaned up the tail by dismissing Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir — all for ducks. In England’s first innings, Siraj claimed six wickets, while Akash Deep took four.
