The Indian team lost its first wicket in the 9th over when KL Rahul was bowled by Chris Woakes after scoring just 2 runs off 26 balls. Karun Nair was dismissed after making 31 runs off 50 balls.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal narrowly missed out on a century, getting out for 87 runs off 107 balls. Rishabh Pant scored 25 runs from 42 deliveries, while Nitish Kumar Reddy could only manage 1 run off 6 balls. At stumps on Day 1, Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill were unbeaten at the crease.
England won the toss and chose to bowl first. India included Akash Deep, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar in the playing XI for the second Test. Sai Sudharsan, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shardul Thakur, who played in the previous match, are not part of this Test.
