Indian team’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant has created history by scoring centuries in both innings of a Test match. Showcasing his brilliant form, Pant reached his eighth Test century in just 130 balls. With this feat, Pant has registered several records to his name.
Pant Sets Multiple Records
In the first innings, Pant had scored his seventh Test hundred off 146 balls. Improving on that, he completed his eighth century in just 130 deliveries in the second innings. With this, Pant became the first Indian to score centuries in both innings of a Test match in England. He is also the seventh Indian overall to score hundreds in both innings of a Test.
Indians Who Have Scored Centuries in Both Innings of a Test:
- Vijay Hazare
- Sunil Gavaskar (3 times)
- Rahul Dravid (2 times)
- Virat Kohli

- Rohit Sharma
- Rishabh Pant
Second Wicketkeeper After Andy Flower to Score Twin Hundreds in a Test
Pant has also become only the second wicketkeeper-batter in Test history to score centuries in both innings of a match. Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower was the first to achieve this in 2001 against South Africa, scoring 142 in the first innings and an unbeaten 199 in the second. Pant, in comparison, scored 134 in the first innings and 118 in the second against England.
Equals Flintoff and Stokes’ Six-Hitting Record
The 27-year-old faced 140 balls in the second innings, smashing 15 fours and 3 sixes to score 118. He stitched a massive 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket with KL Rahul before being dismissed by Shoaib Bashir, caught by Zak Crawley. Pant hit a total of nine sixes across both innings, equalling the record of Andrew Flintoff and Ben Stokes for most sixes in a Test match in England. Flintoff achieved this against Australia at Edgbaston in 2005, and Stokes did the same at Lord’s in 2023 against Australia.
Becomes 7th Overseas Batter with Five Consecutive 50+ Scores in England
Earlier, Pant had also scored his seventh Test fifty in 83 balls. This was his fifth consecutive 50+ score in Tests in England, making him the seventh overseas batter to achieve this milestone. Topping this list is Steve Smith, who has done it seven times.
Rishabh Pant’s outstanding performance has firmly cemented his place among the modern greats of Test cricket, especially with his brilliance on English soil.
