Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the T20 World Cup 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suffered a major setback. According to news agency ANI, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has clarified that the tournament schedule has been fully finalised and all participating teams are expected to fulfil their obligations under the “Terms of Participation.”
ICC Unhappy With Misrepresentation of Contingency Plans
An ICC source stated that some media reports have incorrectly presented security assessments and contingency planning. The ICC said that independent risk assessments conducted for the T20 World Cup in India have been categorised as “low to moderate,” which is considered normal for any major global sporting event.
The council further clarified that these assessments have not identified any direct or specific threats to the Bangladesh team, match officials, or the venues in Kolkata and Mumbai.

No Change in Schedule, Says ICC
The ICC made it clear that there is no question of altering the tournament schedule. The statement said, “There has been no change in the ICC’s position. The match schedule has been finalised and published, and the ICC expects all participating teams to meet their responsibilities.”
At the same time, the ICC assured that it will continue engaging with all stakeholders, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board, and will consider constructive suggestions to further strengthen security arrangements.
ICC Confident About Security in India
In its statement, the ICC also emphasised that it is working in close coordination with the BCCI and relevant local authorities regarding the organisation of the T20 World Cup 2026 in India. According to the ICC, security planning is being carried out jointly, involving both central and state-level agencies.
The council expressed confidence in the experience and track record of the BCCI and local authorities, noting that India has successfully and safely hosted several major international sporting events in the past. The ICC believes that this cooperation and professional coordination will ensure a safe environment for all teams, including Bangladesh.
How Did the Controversy Begin?
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin in February, but Bangladesh has expressed discomfort over touring India, citing security concerns. The BCB had requested that its matches be shifted to co-host Sri Lanka.
This decision came after Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released by IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders on the instructions of the BCCI. No official reason was provided for the decision, but the development occurred amid reports of alleged attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
