Many Indian states have already launched their own domestic T20 leagues, and now another name is set to join this growing list. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is preparing to launch its own T20 league in the 2025–26 season. Several players who have performed exceptionally well in domestic tournaments have also made a mark in the IPL. Soon, players from Gujarat will also be seen showcasing their skills in their own franchise-based league. This development has been confirmed by Anil Patel, the Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association.
Decision on Teams Coming Soon
GCA Secretary Anil Patel confirmed the launch of the new franchise T20 tournament in an interview with Cricbuzz. He said that the association would soon hold a meeting to finalise key details, including decisions regarding the teams.
It has often been observed that players who perform well in state-based franchise leagues in India are eventually picked by IPL teams. Some even get the opportunity to make an impact with their batting or bowling in the tournament. Now, talented cricketers from Gujarat will get a similar platform to shine. Gujarat has produced several outstanding players who have secured their place in the Indian national team through consistent performances in domestic cricket.
Will Big Names Participate?
India’s experienced fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has played first-class cricket for Gujarat. Ravindra Jadeja, former players Munaf Patel, and Ajay Jadeja are also associated with the state. Many new faces from Gujarat are expected to emerge through this upcoming league.
When we look at other states, Tamil Nadu has its Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), Delhi recently launched the Delhi Premier League, and Uttar Pradesh runs the UP Premier League, where many players have displayed impressive performances. The list of such leagues is growing steadily.
