Former Team India cricketer Suresh Raina’s troubles have deepened in the betting app case. He has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection with the 1xBet case. Raina is expected to appear before the agency today to record his statement. The development has created a stir in the cricket world, as several cricketers have promoted such apps. The notice to Raina is part of a larger crackdown on illegal betting apps and platforms, many of which have been endorsed by celebrities.
Earlier in May this year, Telangana Police registered a case against 25 big stars, including Rana Daggubati and Prakash Raj, for promoting betting apps. Both actors have recorded their statements, claiming they did nothing wrong and no longer promote such platforms. They also stated that when they did promote these apps, their campaigns were limited only to regions where online skill-based games are legally permitted.

According to an India Today report, in connection with the ongoing probe into the alleged illegal promotion of an online betting platform, actor Rana Daggubati appeared before the ED in Hyderabad on Monday, 11 August. He had initially been summoned on 23 July but requested more time citing film commitments, which led to his appearance being postponed to 11 August. Now, it is Suresh Raina’s turn.
The ED is also investigating the financial transactions and digital trails of several other celebrities named in the FIR, including actors Manchu Lakshmi, Nidhhi Agerwal, Ananya Nagalla, and television anchor Sreemukhi. In addition, between 2023 and 2024, authorities have intensified the high-profile Mahadev online betting case, which involves allegations against senior politicians and bureaucrats in Chhattisgarh. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s name has also surfaced in the matter.
