The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make two big announcements on the same day. On 19th August, the BCCI will reveal the Indian squads for both the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 and the Women’s ODI World Cup. The teams will be announced at separate press conferences. The Asia Cup will begin on 9th September in the UAE and will be played in the T20 format this time. Meanwhile, the Women’s World Cup is scheduled to start on 30th September in India.
For the Men’s Asia Cup, the senior selection committee will meet at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on 19th August. Following the meeting, a press conference is scheduled at 1:30 PM, where captain Suryakumar Yadav and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to be present. Reports suggest that the selection could bring some surprises. Star batsman Shubman Gill and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, despite performing well in the England tour, might find it difficult to secure a place in the Asia Cup squad.
Selectors are likely to continue with the current opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. There is usually room for a third opener, and Gill’s name will certainly be discussed, though Yashasvi Jaiswal appears to be the stronger contender for that role. Other probable batsmen include Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh. All-rounders Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar are also in contention, while Jitesh Sharma is expected to be picked as the second wicketkeeper.
On the other hand, the Indian women’s squad for the ODI World Cup 2025 will be announced on Tuesday at 3:30 PM. After the selection meeting, a press conference will be held with captain Harmanpreet Kaur and women’s selection committee chairperson Neetu David. Looking at recent performances, four out of the top six batting positions seem certain. These names include Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh. After Richa, Yastika Bhatia is seen as the second wicketkeeping option for India.
