BCCI Cuts Staff Daily Allowance, Revises Travel Policy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has simplified its domestic “tournament allowance policy,” following which the daily allowances for employees across all departments will now be disbursed. These payments had been on hold since January.

As per the previous BCCI travel policy, employees were entitled to ₹15,000 per day for short trips (up to four days), and ₹10,000 per day for longer assignments related to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Women’s Premier League (WPL), and ICC events hosted in India. Additionally, a one-time incidental allowance of ₹7,500 was also paid during travel.

    Daily Allowance Reduced

According to the revised policy, the incidental allowance has been scrapped. Now, employees will receive ₹10,000 per day during travel. The IPL spans a little over two months, while ICC events last at least a month. A BCCI source informed PTI that after tax deduction at source (TDS), the net daily allowance amounts to around ₹6,500.

Due to the policy revision, departments like finance, operations, and media had not received their IPL and WPL allowances. However, with the new policy finalized, these pending payments are expected to be cleared soon. The source said, “A clear policy was needed, as some staff were claiming allowances despite operating from the Mumbai headquarters during tournaments. Now that the policy is ready, arrears will be settled.”

For clarity, an employee traveling for the full 70-day IPL season is eligible to claim ₹10,000 per day, totaling ₹7 lakh. If an employee travels partially, they can claim 60% of the allowance, while those not traveling at all can claim 40%.

    Foreign Travel and Officials’ Allowances

For foreign travel, most BCCI staff members receive a daily allowance of $300.

Honorary office bearers—such as the President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President, and Joint Secretary—receive a daily allowance of $1,000 during international tours. For a one-day meeting within India, they receive ₹40,000, while for multi-day domestic work trips, they are paid ₹30,000 per day.
