Pat Cummins Suggests Ideal Venue for WTC Final, Recommends Where the Title Match Should Be Played

Australian captain Pat Cummins has suggested a change in the venue for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final. According to Cummins, the final match of the WTC should be hosted by the country that won the previous WTC cycle. Ahead of the WTC final against South Africa, Cummins recommended that the title clash should be held outside England. So far, all three WTC finals have been played in England.

Recently, reports emerged that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering hosting the WTC Final. Cummins also agreed with the idea of hosting the final outside England. However, he added that if hosting it elsewhere isn’t feasible, then Lord’s should continue to be the venue for the final.

Cummins said, “From a logistics point of view, it is easier to hold the final at the same venue. Still, it would be nice if the host of the next final is the winner of the previous cycle. As an alternative, I think having it at Lord’s every time is also a very good option.”

Cummins Ranks ODI World Cup Win Above WTC Title

Australia, the reigning WTC champions, reached the final after consecutive series wins against India and Sri Lanka. When asked about the feeling of winning the WTC, Cummins acknowledged that while winning the Test Championship is a remarkable achievement, it still ranks below their ODI World Cup win in India.

He said, “The past four years have been highly successful for our team, and it has been a significant phase in the careers of our players and staff. We believe we’ve been the best team in the world across all conditions, and keeping the WTC trophy (mace) with us will be a great statement, not just now but for the future as well.”

Australia to Face South Africa from June 11

Speaking ahead of the final, Cummins stated, “The 2023 ODI World Cup victory will always be at the top. But I believe the World Test Championship is just a step below that, because you play against every other top team in the world and manage to reach the final over a span of years. So, the WTC has its own importance too.”

The WTC 2023–25 final between Australia and South Africa will begin on June 11 at Lord’s in London.
