The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee recently announced India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Suryakumar Yadav has been named the captain, while Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain. Just a few days after the squad announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a major step by deciding to replace two selectors in the senior men’s selection committee.

On Thursday, 22nd August, the BCCI invited applications for two new selectors, along with positions for the women’s team and the junior men’s team selection committees.

According to the official press release,

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for positions in the senior men’s, women’s, and junior men’s selection committees.”

Two Vacancies in the Senior Men’s Selection Committee

The BCCI has opened applications for two positions in the senior men’s national selection committee. The selected members will be responsible for picking the Indian team across all formats — Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and any other formats as determined by the BCCI.

    Eligibility Criteria for National Selectors

Only former cricketers with first-class experience are eligible to apply. Candidates must meet at least one of the following requirements:

    • Must have played a minimum of 7 Test matches; or
    • 30 first-class matches; or
    • 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.
    • Must not have served as a member of any BCCI cricket committee in the past 5 years.

Possible Changes in the Current Committee

Earlier media reports suggested that the current selection committee — Ajit Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and SS Sharath — was under review. There were speculations that changes could be announced during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha is a strong contender to replace SS Sharath in the senior men’s selection committee. Sharath, meanwhile, is likely to be appointed as the head of the junior men’s selection committee.
