Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal’s ex-wife, YouTuber, dancer, and actress Dhanashree Verma, has spoken for the first time about their divorce. In a candid conversation, she opened up about her emotional journey, the difficult phase during the separation, and the intense trolling she faced on social media. Dhanashree described the divorce as one of the most emotional moments of her life, saying she completely broke down and even cried openly in front of everyone.
“No One Has the Right to Disrespect Your Partner”
During a podcast with Humans of Bombay, Dhanashree spoke openly about the divorce. She said,
“No one celebrates a divorce. It’s always an emotional moment. When we went to court on the day of the divorce and the process started, I couldn’t control myself and broke into tears. Such situations require a lot of maturity.”
She added that she remained silent throughout the process, avoided giving statements, and respected her family’s privacy.
“When you marry someone, you do it out of love. But when you separate, maintaining dignity is very important. If you choose not to speak about it, it doesn’t give anyone the right to take advantage of your silence or disrespect your partner.”
Her Reaction to Chahal’s “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy” T-shirt
During the divorce proceedings, Yuzvendra Chahal wore a T-shirt that said “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy”, which quickly caught social media’s attention. Dhanashree recalled,
“I was sitting in the car after leaving the court, trying to calm myself down, when I saw this on social media. I was shocked. I thought to myself, ‘Was I crying for this?’ That was the moment I decided not to cry anymore. If the other person can behave this way, why should I break down?”

“Your Behaviour Reflects Your Personality”
Dhanashree believes that how a person reacts on the day of a divorce reveals a lot about their character.
“Your behaviour in such moments shows your maturity and personality. I handled myself with dignity because that’s who I am.”
On Social Media Trolling
The choreographer-actress also addressed the harsh trolling she faced after the separation.
“People often judge women without knowing the full story. Negative comments and trolling have always existed, and they are beyond my control. I no longer let them affect me. My focus is only on my work and my career.”
She added that even before marriage, when she used to post her dance videos on YouTube, people often made inappropriate comments.
“Despite the negativity, I stayed committed to my work and my passion. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and I’ve promised myself to remain true to who I am. I can’t change my profession because of people’s opinions. Even after everything, I’m still getting great work and continuing to grow in my career.”
