BCCI Starts Searching for New Coaches for Centre of Excellence

BCCI Starts the Hunt for New Coaches for Centre of Excellence

Following the departure of several key coaching staff, including renowned bowling coach Troy Cooley, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now seeking new appointments for its Centre of Excellence (COE). Applications have been invited for top positions in departments such as batting, bowling, sports science, and medicine.

Troy Cooley, the former Australian first-class pacer and England’s Ashes-winning bowling coach, completed his three-year stint with the BCCI. He had been in discussions regarding an extension. Cooley, 59, was appointed as the bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) at the end of 2021. His role may now be taken over by former India pacer VRV Singh, who has previously worked closely with Cooley.

Several coaching and support staff positions are currently vacant following multiple resignations. Head of the medical team, Nitin Patel, stepped down from his post in March. Spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule has also left and is now part of Rajasthan Royals’ support staff. Another coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has joined the Indian national team setup.

Meanwhile, VVS Laxman’s term as the head of the COE is set to end later this year. It is believed that he is not keen on renewing his contract, although the BCCI may request him to continue until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

On Thursday, the BCCI officially advertised three major coaching positions. According to the advertisement, candidates applying for the batting or bowling coach roles must be former first-class or international cricketers and must hold a BCCI Level 2 or Level 3 coaching certification.

For the batting coach position, a minimum of five years’ coaching experience at the state or elite youth level is required, and the same applies to the bowling coach role. For the Head of Sports Medicine position, the candidate must possess a Master’s degree (preferably a Doctorate) in sports science or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of professional experience.

The last date to submit applications is August 20.
