The fifth Test between India and England is being played at The Oval. In England’s second innings, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett gave their team a good start. However, on the very last ball of Day 3, Mohammed Siraj bowled Crawley clean to give India their first breakthrough.
By stumps, England had scored 50 runs for the loss of one wicket in 13.5 overs. Ben Duckett remained unbeaten on 34 runs, while Crawley scored 14 runs off 36 balls before being dismissed. Two days of play are still left. England, leading the series 2-1, still need 324 more runs to win, whereas India need nine wickets.
Earlier, India were bowled out for 396 runs in their second innings. For India, Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer with 118 runs. Josh Tongue took five wickets for England. During the first session of Day 3, Yashasvi and Akash Deep added a crucial century stand. Jamie Overton dismissed Akash Deep after he scored 66 runs off 94 balls. The partnership for the third wicket was worth 107 runs.
After lunch, captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 11 runs off 9 balls by Atkinson. Karun Nair managed to score only 17 runs off 32 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out after making 118 runs from 164 balls. Dhruv Jurel contributed 34 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja scored 53. Siraj went out for a duck. Washington Sundar played an attacking knock of 53 runs off 46 balls. Thanks to the excellent bowling by Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, India restricted England to 247 runs in the first innings. Later, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant century helped India take a 373-run lead in the second innings.
