England’s legendary batsman Joe Root has achieved a huge milestone during the Manchester Test match against India. On the third day of the match, Root played a magnificent knock of 150 runs. With this brilliant innings, Joe Root broke a major record held by Australia’s great Don Bradman. Root has now scored his 9th Test century against India on home soil in England. With this, he has become the player with the most centuries at home against a single team.
In this feat, Root has gone past Sir Don Bradman, who had scored 8 centuries at home against England. Bradman’s record stood for decades, but Root has now created history by surpassing it. Talking about his overall Test centuries, Root’s tally has now reached 38.
Root surpasses Ponting in Test runs
Apart from the record of most Test centuries at home against one particular team, Joe Root has also achieved another remarkable milestone. Root has now overtaken former Australian great Ricky Ponting in terms of Test runs. Joe Root has become the second-highest run-scorer in the history of Test cricket. Ahead of him is only India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who has scored 15,921 runs. Ponting had 13,378 runs, while Root now has 13,409 runs in Test cricket.
Root now eyes Sachin’s record
In terms of Test runs, Joe Root is now behind only Sachin Tendulkar. He will also be aiming at Sachin’s record of centuries. Sachin tops the list with 51 Test centuries. Root currently has 38 centuries. Jacques Kallis is second on the list with 45 centuries, while Ricky Ponting is third with 41.
