Indian team’s experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is on the verge of joining Sir Garfield Sobers’ elite list and is just 58 runs away from achieving this milestone. Jadeja is in brilliant form in the ongoing five-match Test series against England and has scored four consecutive half-centuries so far. In the second innings of the Lord’s Test, Jadeja stood tall amidst a collapse and remained unbeaten on 61.
Just 58 Runs Away from Matching Sobers’ Unique Record
Despite Jadeja’s fighting knock, India couldn’t secure a win and lost the match by 22 runs, trailing 1-2 in the series. Jadeja is now close to equalling a special record held by West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers. Sobers is the only batter to have scored over 1000 runs in England while batting at number six or lower.
Sobers amassed 1097 runs in just 16 innings at a phenomenal average of 84.38, which included four centuries and five fifties. Jadeja currently stands second on the list, having scored 942 runs in 27 innings at an average of 40.95, with one century and seven fifties. He needs just 58 more runs to complete 1000 Test runs in England and join Sobers in this elite club.
Third Indian to Score Four Consecutive Fifties in England
Earlier, Jadeja became only the third Indian batter to score four consecutive half-centuries in England. Before him, Sourav Ganguly and Rishabh Pant had achieved this feat. So far in the current series, Jadeja has scored 327 runs in three matches at an incredible average of 109, including four fifties. Batting lower down the order, Jadeja has been playing a crucial role for Team India. He will look to continue this fine form in the fourth Test starting from 23rd July in Manchester.
