Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi is once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Despite being one of LSG’s standout bowlers this season, Rathi has been suspended for one match and fined 50% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
The incident occurred during LSG’s recent clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Rathi was seen verbally sending off Abhishek Sharma after dismissing him, followed by his controversial ‘notebook celebration’. This triggered a heated exchange, with Abhishek confronting Rathi, and umpires stepping in to diffuse the situation.
The BCCI confirmed the penalty on May 20, stating:
“Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for conduct unbecoming in breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.”
This is Rathi’s third offense of the season. He had already accumulated three demerit points—one from an incident against Punjab Kings on April 1, and two from a clash with Mumbai Indians on April 4. With the latest violation adding two more demerit points, he now faces an automatic one-match suspension, ruling him out of LSG’s upcoming game against Gujarat Titans on May 22.

Rathi’s suspension still puts LSG in a tough spot, even though they are already eliminated from the playoff race. With two matches remaining, including a fiery showdown against arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), losing a key bowler like Digvesh Rathi adds to LSG’s challenges. Rishabh Pant, leading LSG, will now need to reshuffle his bowling attack — and finding a like-for-like replacement won’t be easy.
Meanwhile, on May 20, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. While both teams are out of playoffs contention, the match holds emotional significance for fans — with strong speculation that this could be MS Dhoni’s final IPL appearance.
Can CSK give Dhoni a fitting farewell? Or will RR end their season on a winning note? With nothing to lose, both sides are expected to play freely — making this a must-watch clash for fans.
