Indian fans were left disappointed after the cancellation of the Bangladesh tour, as it delayed their chance to see their two favourite stars — Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli — back on the cricket field. Since both legends have retired from T20I and Test formats, fans now only get to watch them in ODIs. India was scheduled to play a three-match ODI series in Bangladesh, and supporters were eagerly looking forward to it. However, after the tour was called off, fan reactions clearly showed their disappointment.
Now, there’s a ray of hope. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has offered to host a short limited-overs series in August and has made a formal request to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Although the BCCI has not yet responded officially, if the series does go ahead, fans might see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to action next month.
India was originally set to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh. After that series was cancelled, Sri Lanka proposed a similar six-match schedule for India.
However, the BCCI is still weighing its options. Much depends on the final decision regarding the Asia Cup, which stakeholders — especially the Pakistan Cricket Board-led Asian Cricket Council (ACC) — are eagerly awaiting.
A source familiar with the matter said, “The request from SLC is pending, but we haven’t made a decision yet. We need to consider the Asia Cup situation. Everything is interlinked.”
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia is currently in London for the Lord’s Test. It is expected that he may hold discussions with players, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar during or after the match. A decision regarding Sri Lanka’s offer could follow those discussions.
