The second Test match of the five-match Test series between India and England is being played in Birmingham. On Day 4 of the second Test, England, chasing a massive target of 608 runs, reached 72 for 3 in their second innings. Akash Deep took two wickets and Mohammed Siraj picked up one for India. At stumps, Harry Brook was unbeaten on 15 and Ollie Pope on 24.
England had a poor start in their second innings. They lost their first wicket in the form of Zak Crawley, who was dismissed by Siraj. Opener Ben Duckett was bowled by Akash Deep after scoring 25 runs. Star batter Joe Root was also bowled by Akash Deep for just 6 runs off 16 balls.
Earlier on Day 4, India declared their second innings at 427 for 6, setting England a huge target of 608 runs to win the match. In the first innings, India had posted a mammoth 587 runs, thanks to a double century from Shubman Gill. In reply, England scored 407 runs, powered by centuries from Harry Brook and Jamie Smith. As a result, India gained a first-innings lead of 180 runs.
On Saturday, in India’s second innings, Karun Nair was dismissed for 26 off 46 balls, while KL Rahul scored 55 runs off 84 deliveries. Rishabh Pant played a quickfire knock of 65. Shubman Gill continued his brilliant form and scored 161 runs off 162 balls. Nitish Kumar could score only 1 run. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 69 off 118 balls. For England, Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir took two wickets each in the second innings.
