India scored 587 runs in their first innings against England in the second Test, getting all out in 151 overs. Shubman Gill was the top scorer with a brilliant 269 runs. For England, Shoaib Bashir took three wickets, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue picked up two wickets each.
In reply, England got off to a poor start. The team lost three wickets for just 25 runs. Akash Deep struck twice in the same over, dismissing Ben Duckett (0) and Ollie Pope (0). Mohammed Siraj removed Zak Crawley. At the end of Day 2, Joe Root (18) and Harry Brook (30) were unbeaten at the crease. England were 77/3 in their second innings and still trail India by 510 runs.
Earlier on Day 2, Ravindra Jadeja scored 89 runs off 137 balls, hitting 10 fours and one six before being dismissed by Josh Tongue. Jadeja and Shubman Gill added a 203-run partnership for the sixth wicket off 279 balls. Shubman Gill reached his double century in 311 balls. Washington Sundar scored 42 runs from 103 deliveries. Captain Shubman Gill was eventually dismissed for 269 off 387 balls. Akash Deep made 6 runs. Shoaib Bashir dismissed Siraj to end India’s innings.
On Day 3, the weather could play a major role as cloudy skies are expected. In England, dukes balls seem to seam and swing much better in cloudy weather conditions. India would hope that the weather forecast for the third day turns out to be true.
