India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is currently in London for medical treatment. He is suffering from a sports hernia, and treatment is expected to begin next week. According to reports, Surya will remain away from cricket for the next few weeks and is expected to return to the field by August. The good news is that India does not have any T20 matches scheduled during this period.
Although the BCCI has not released any official statement regarding Suryakumar Yadav’s treatment, reports suggest that it could take up to two months for full recovery after the procedure. A sports hernia typically occurs in sports that involve sudden changes in direction or rapid twisting movements. It is different from a traditional hernia but can eventually lead to one if not treated properly.
The 34-year-old Suryakumar Yadav is a white-ball specialist. Fortunately, India has no T20 matches scheduled over the next two months. In August, the Indian team is set to tour Bangladesh, followed by home series against South Africa and West Indies, and then a tour of Australia. All these series are crucial preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Suryakumar Yadav is expected to fully recover before the next T20 cycle begins. He had a stellar run in IPL 2025, where he was the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians. Surya scored 717 runs in 16 matches this season. Remarkably, he scored 25 or more runs in each of these 16 innings, setting a new T20 record for the most consecutive 25+ scores.
